Obwohl die Gegend um den heutigen Schliersee als wüst und unbesiedelt aus den alten Schriften beschrieben wird, vermuten Historiker dennoch das Fischer und Jäger in dieser Region angesiedelt hatten. Wissenschaftler fanden bei Forschungsarbeiten und Ausgrabungen die Überreste menschlicher Siedlungstätigkeiten, zurückdatiert bis in das 6. Jahrtausend.

Geschriebene Geschichte der Ortschaft reicht zurück in das Jahr 779 nach Christus. 

Nach der Erzählung der Einheimischen, gab es damals fünf Bruder aus der Uradel der Waldecker, die in die Wildnis der Berge zogen. Diese gründeten am ,,Kirchbichl" ein Kloster. Ihr Kloster nannten sie ,,Slyrse". Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entwickelte sich die bayerische Sprache weiter und so entstand der heutige Name ,,Schliersee".

Es gab aber auch andere Version der Geschichte, woher der Name ,,Schliersee" stammen könnte, wenn man noch tiefer forscht.

Im Jahre 779 nach Christus gründeten fünf Mönche aus irische und schottische abstammung, ein Kloster,  in der bayerischen Wildnis am See. Adalung, Antonius, Hiltupat, Kerpalt und Otakir nennen ihr Kloster ,,Slyrs". 

Das Wort ,,Slyrs" ist gällish und es ist wenn man in manche Sprache Übersetzt ,,  Whisky".

Although the current area around the Schliersee was described as desolated and uninhabited, historians suspect nevertheless that fishermen and hunters had settled in this region. During research and excavations, scientists found remains of human settlement activities, dating back to the 6th millennium.

Written history of the place goes back to the year 779 AD.

According to the narration of the locals, there were five brothers from the ancient nobels of the Waldecker who moved in the wilderness of the mountains and founded a monastery at ,,Kirchbichl''. They called their monastery ,,Slyrse". In the course of century the Bavarian dialect developed further and this is how the current name ,,Schliersee" was born.

But there is another version of the story where the name ,,Slyrse" came,  if you research deeper.

In the year 779 AD five monks from Ireland and Scotland  founded a monastery in the Bavarian wilderness by the lake. Adalung, Antonius, Hiltupat, Kerpalt and Otakir named their monastery ,,Slyrs".

,,Slyrs" is Gaelish and it is if translated in some language ,, means Whisky".
